How to clean used crib/mattress

I bought 2 cribs and mattresses from someone local and they are in great status. I am unsure as how to clean and sanitize both the wooden cribs as well as mattresses. Anyone take tips or suggestions? Thanks in accelerate!

I'k non certain how but I just read that used crib mattresses are a SIDS risk. I don't know why, but it's something that stuck in my head. You should await it up.

@TROPICALxTWINS,

I accept no clue. Personally, I would non utilise a used mattress.

@TROPICALxTWINS,

For the wood I'm a huge fan of 50/fifty white vinegar and water and wipe it down till clean. For the mattress I found this ( our has been in storage for 3 years)

Use an upholstery attachment on your vacuum to remove as much dust as possible. Scrub: Combine ane/4 cup of babe-safe laundry detergent in a bucket with ane gallon of warm water. Using a gentle scrubbing castor, scrub the mattress cloth with the detergent mixture. Do not pour water or detergent direct onto it.

@TROPICALxTWINS,

The recommendation is that you not use a mattress for more than ane child, it really increases your SIDS hazard. I would buy a cheap Walmart mattress myself and not take the take chances. Vinegar should exist fine for the crib itself.

@TROPICALxTWINS,

x Fyi - I recently posted info nigh a study done (Europe I call back) that showed a link betwixt used/one-time crib mattresses and SIDS. Yous tin google it or I could sum information technology up again for yous. Not worth the risk, in my opinion.

Thanks everyone- the mattresses only had one possessor so i would think information technology would be the aforementioned using from one sibling to some other? Although that isn't my case. I will look up the sids upshot and then strange to hear that!

I would too be hesitant almost bed bugs. It'south really illegal to sell a used mattress because of that reason.

Wait, so those posting about SIDS risks - are y'all planning to throw away this mattress and buy a brand new one for your side by side kid? Second-plus time moms, did you get a new mattress? I've never heard of anyone doing this earlier.
